We wrote a few weeks ago regarding the future of driverless vehicles. I have been researching the future of training on HGV’s. There are companies who are developing simulators capable of training people to drive HGV’s for the future of HGV training. The simulator would be almost identical to the flight simulators that are used to train pilots. A new system is now being established by the BT Fleet, this could completely change the future of training.
The simulator in question has been designed to replicate the Cab of a HGV. It has everything you would expect in a cab i.e. Full size HGV seat, steering wheels and dashboard complete with working buttons. It will also have a large LCD screen to represent the driving. As you can guess this is not a cheap to produce a simulator. The BT fleet system uses a 3D headset and a similar control panel to give similar experience at a much cheaper cost.
BT have said that the new system is supposed to reduce risk and try and make it easier to train new drivers in obtaining licences. There is potential of software being created so that they can improve training programs. The system could also raise more awareness for drivers and teach them to operate vehicles more efficiently
It is inevitable that the fleet training in the near future is going to be developed by technology. Nevertheless, this is not a bad idea as long as it provides better training as a result. By devising this plan to enhance training it is going to hopefully going to bring a new breed of drivers through. Which would make them safer, more productive, more efficient and more intelligent. If the simulators do work then they will be welcomed in with both hands.
Here at HGV Driver Training Centre we will continue to offer the highest quality training available in the UK. We continue to deal with companies and clients and provide bespoke courses for all drivers.
